This Mental Health First Aid Course is for everyone. Mental health first aid has the potential to help those who may, in their daily lives, come across individuals experiencing mental health difficulties.
Mental health first aid is the help offered to someone developing a mental health problem, experiencing a
worsening of a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
You can give this first aid until the person has received appropriate professional treatment or the crisis is resolved
The objectives of Mental Health First Aid Training are:
- to empower people within our communities, at work and at home to address emerging mental health
problems early and enable recovery - to increase awareness of the signs and symptoms of mental health problems
- to improve attitudes towards people with mental illness and reduce stigma
Course Content
- Know what mental health is and why people develop mental health conditions and
the role of a Mental Health First Aider - Know how to provide advice and practical support for a person presenting with a
mental health condition - Know how to recognise and identify range mental conditions including – depression,
anxiety problems, psychosis, substance misuse problems, eating disorders,
gambling problems - Understand the first aid action plan for mental health and be able to put it in place
- Know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace
- Know the signs – The first step is knowing the signs and symptoms of mental health
problems so you can work out when it may be time to help them.
Certification
Learners who complete the Mental Health First Aid Course will receive a Mental Health First Aid Certificate valid for two years.
