Choking

2 Types of Choking

  1. Partial Blockage ( encourage the casualty to keep coughing don’t intervene)
  2. Full Foreign body Airway Obstruction ( ask casualty are you choking, give 5 back slaps followed by 5 abdominal thrusts – follow this sequence until it is relieved or if the casualty goes limp and unconscious, lay them on their back on a firm flat surface and check airway, breathing and consciousness. If no Breathing start CPR, 30 Compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths, follow this sequence until help arrives, an AED is retrieved or they start breathing.  If casualty is breathing put them in the Recovery position and call 999/112.)

 

REMEMBER THE CASUALTY WILL NEED MEDICAL ATTENTION ALWAYS IF ABDOMINAL THRUSTS ARE PERFORMED.
